Review of LOST & FOUND
The ampersand is the key to this well-written, slightly solipsistic memoir
This is a memoir that works, until it doesn’t. Most of the time it does. Her story is real, sometimes moving but too often too long. Love stories written by serious people for serious people should be kept brief. What makes this book special, however, is not the memoir itself but the brilliant digressions. Thankfully, the digressions make up close to half the book. These parts are a marginalia magnet. Shultz has a gift for the perfect quotation and writes knowing that she will be quoted at cocktail parties. The memoir brims with insight … just be prepared to skim.
